Abstract

Of the 57 million malnourished children in India, 20 percent are under five years of age and suffer from wasting due to acute undernutrition. 43 percent of Indian children under five years of age are underweight and 48 percent (61 million children) are stunted due to chronic undernutrition. It is alarming that India accounts for three out of every 10 stunted children in the world.
